How to Save Voicemails

There are many reasons why you might want to transcribe voicemail. Whether it’s saving a special memory from a loved one or keeping important information that you need proof of, it’s smart to retain certain voicemails for your records.

Methods for saving voicemails as files in a new location depend on the device that you use.

Follow these steps for saving a voicemail on an iPhone:

  1. Tap the Phone app.
  2. Tap the Voicemail icon on the far right bottom of the screen.
  3. Tap on the voicemail that you want to save.
  4. Tap the Share button. The share button looks like a box with an arrow pointing upwards.
  5. Select Notes or Voice Memo.

The selected voicemail will now be in both your Notes and Voice Memo apps. You can now retrieve the voicemail from these apps at any time necessary.

Both apps are connected to iCloud, so as long as you have storage available, the voicemail will also be backed up to the cloud.

You may want the voicemail saved to your Apple computer as well. If this is the case, then tap “AirDrop” once you reach Step 5. Then tap on your computer’s name.

You should now receive a popup on your computer inviting you to accept the file and save it in your desired location.

Follow these steps for saving a voicemail on an Android:

  1. Open your Voicemail app.
  2. Tap and hold the desired message.
  3. Tap “Save”, “Export” or “Archive”. These options will depend on your Android model.
  4. Select your preferred storage location and tap “OK” or “Save”.

You should now be able to access the voicemail at your convenience from your chosen location.

Now that you are successfully saving voicemails as files, you may want to transcribe voicemails to text. If so, then Audext provides the perfect service for you.

1. YouMail

You can use YouMail on any device. Beyond converting voice messages to text, YouMail also has the ability to block spammers and robocalls. If you have business needs, you can also personalize your voicemail greeting and initiate conference calls.

Beware that the free plan has ads and only transcribes the first fifteen seconds of a voicemail. Nonetheless, it’s an effective voicemail to text app choice.

2. InstaVoice

InstaVoice can be very versatile, as it offers visual voice messages to text for a maximum of ten numbers. While it does not have as many features as some of our other aforementioned apps, it does have great customer support.

This can be hard to find in other free voicemail to text apps for Android.

This free voicemail to text app also allows you to receive and transcribe as many voicemails as you want.

The best part? You can use a chat interface within InstaVoice for responding to the number that left you a voicemail. You will be hard-pressed to find a better voicemail to text free app on the market.

3. HulloMail

HulloMail is great for detail-oriented workers. This app gives you the ability to search transcriptions.

You may also block unwanted callers, as well as send copies of voicemail transcriptions through email. You can even assign unique greetings for individual callers. How cool is that!

While HulloMail has a two-week free trial period, there is no free version of this app. It also doesn’t receive calls from Sprint lines, which can be problematic.

However, the subscription plan is valuable as it comes with unlimited Cloud storage.
